QUARANTINE IS COMPLETE!!

A quarantine unit is a vital component in the war against infectious disease waged by animal shelters around the globe.
Canine infectious diseases such as Parvovirus, Distemper and Kennel Cough are a constant threat to the health and welfare of dogs living in high-risk shelter environments.
The importance of quarantine cannot be underestimated. In April 2005 the shelter experienced an outbreak of Distemper due to a dog being admitted without quarantine. The outbreak was quickly contained but did result in the loss of several young dogs
Since the strict adherence to quarantine protocols, the shelter has been free of infectious disease however we must be continually vigilant.
Our "quarantine" area was originally a few make-shift kennels and pens located outside the shelter perimeter. Whilst providing better accommodation than the streets from where they came, these areas were an eye-sore, difficult to keep clean and not 100% secure from the harsh Kosovo elements.

Now, thanks to donations of monies and materials our quarantine unit is up and running!
Dogs entering our shelter now have a clean, warm, safe and secure area to spend their 4 week quarantine period. These dogs are monitored for disease and when given a clean bill of health and are fully vaccinated, moved through to the main kennel areas.
